The story…

It all started when our family was on an outing at a local diner in Chicago. After we were handed kids’ menus with crayons, we starting wondering what happens to all the crayons that people leave behind at restaurants. We decided to find out. It turns out that crayons from local restaurants in our city are usually thrown in the garbage after each meal. To make matters worse, the type of wax they are made from, paraffin, is not biodegradable. So we decided to start collecting crayons from Chicago area restaurants. We will make sure that the ones that are in good or gently used condition are distributed to organizations in need of art supplies, such as schools, libraries, community centers and art education programs. Older crayons in poor condition and small pieces will be melted down to create crayons in fun shapes and donated, or alternatively used for founder Katherine Lampert’s recycled wax artworks. Please reach out if you are in need of crayons or if you have crayons to donate. We will gladly pick up your used crayons locally. Thanks for helping give these crayons that would otherwise wind up in landfills their creative comeback!
